What is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to correct the size and/or shape of the labia.
Why is this procedure is done?
- Large labia due to anatomical variation or after significant weight loss
- Irregularly shaped or asymmetrical labia
- Disfiguration/scarring due to injury/tearing during delivery of the baby
- Discomfort in the labia associated with enlarged skin
- Cosmetic reasons
How is the procedure done?
It is usually done under general anaesthetic in a hospital theatre. Part of the labium/labia is removed and the skin sutured with dissolvable sutures. Post-operative pain is usually minimal and women usually leave hospital the same day.
